Bound is beloved for converting audio files from the cloud into audiobooks to listen on your device of choice. It starts from the premise that with the advent of cloud storage services like Dropbox, loading your audiobooks onto your iPhone shouldn’t require a Mac.

Tap on the plus button in the upper right-hand corner of the main screen, link your Dropbox account, and then start choosing audiobooks to download to Bound – that’s all it takes to get started.

It supports DRM-free M4B audiobook files and MP3 audio files only; it does not support DRM-protected files like those from iTunes. Also, Bound can only link to Dropbox, something I would like to see expanded to Box, Google Drive, and other storage providers.

48. MediaMonkey

MediaMonkey is a music player with the capacity to play other types of media. You can watch video content, listen to podcasts, and listen to audiobooks.

This isn’t an audiobook platform like Amazon or Kobo, so you can’t buy or download audiobooks with this audiobook app. However, you can listen to audiobooks you already downloaded.

The audiobook app includes support for Android Auto and includes some decent playback controls. The UI is also simple enough to use and the premium version isn’t expensive.

49. SnoozeCast

SnoozeCast is a free audiobook app for iPhone users that helps you sleep by listening to audiobooks and podcasts. One can play any podcast and then try to go to sleep.

After 5 minutes, the audiobook app will be turned off automatically. If you are still awake just shake or move or tap your phone and the audiobook app will continue for another 5 minutes, till you actually fall asleep.

And when you fall asleep, the audiobook app will bookmark your podcast at that exact point, so that you can resume where you left off. There are over 40+ free classic audiobooks included thanks to the team at LibriVox. It includes books by Jane Austen, Alexander Dumas, Charles Dickens, H.G. Wells, and many more.

All the audiobooks are read by their great volunteer community. It is adding in hundreds of hours more of their audiobooks with each update.

  1. Hey, just a correction: Scribl.com (pronounced Scribble and short for Scribliotech) and Scribd.com (pronounced Scribed) are two unrelated companies and sites. Scribl did merge with the former Podiobooks.com and does have the largest free library of original audiobooks in the world. We also have a lot of paid ebooks and audiobooks, where you rightly point out the price is set by customers, using purchase popularity to ensure prices are always fair. We also pay authors a higher share of the sale price than other self-publishing sites, so if you want to support an authors and his or her book is for sale on Scribl, then Scribl is the best place to go for it.

Scribl doesn't do magazines. That's Scribd.
